UPMC Student Nurse Internship
During the summer of 2019, I was selected to participate in the UPMC Student Nurse Internship. The internship is intended for students entering their senior year of nursing school. It is a ten week paid internship, working up to 40 hours a week on a unit in a variety of clinical settings, all while receiving 1-on-1 guidance from a trained preceptor, have built-in shadow opportunities to explore your areas of interest, and built my confidence as a future nurse.
I was assigned to various units, such as the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU), and 2 West Medical/Surgical. I also had the opportunity to shadow for a week in Perianesthesia, Operating room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Endoscopic procedures.
Not only did I have a great learning experience, I got to work in Pennsylvania's largest healthcare system, creating my own network within the company. I also made a large number of new friends and acquaintances.
